Before we start...
Hello everyone!
Hello kids!
Like I promised, we'll be reviewing an episode of Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends of my choice, as the series itself has a lot of seasons and has gone through several eras, thus, making me want to have a look at something a bit simpler to review. Also, you can consider this a little tribute of mine to the late Britt Allcroft (1943-2024).
Anyway, enjoy! :)
Final thoughts
The Fat Controller's engines are busy, but proud to be called really useful. One day, Edward announces that he's heading for the scrapyard, to which Thomas teases him that he's not that old, which the veteran blue engine is aware of. While collecting scrap on his branchline, Edward comes across a traction engine called Trevor, who's due to be broken up the next week due to being old-fashioned. It's now up to Edward to rescue Trevor from this tragic fate and convince the local vicar to have him restored instead.
This episode is simply astounding in many ways! First up, it tackles important topics, such as ageing, the fragility of life and giving others a second chance in a gentle but clear manner, teaching both children and adults some really useful life lessons. All that while also keeping the audience entertained with a heartfelt story driven by a cast of colourful and likable characters, such as Edward, Thomas, the Vicar and, of course, Trevor the Traction Engine himself. Another important part of this episode's story are the themes of community and change, as evident by the lengths Edward's willing to go to for Trevor to be saved from being scrapped.
As far as the soundtrack and technical qualities go, the modelwork is, as typical of Thomas & Friends, stunning. On top of that, the soundtrack composed by Mike O'Donell and Junior Campbell does a great job of conveying the scope and atmosphere of all the scenes in the show.
Lastly, both Ringo Starr and George Carlin (only in the US version) are great narrators! Their voices add to the immersion without a fail!
All in all, a lovely episode!
Before we say 'goodbye'...
Thank you for checking out my review of this Thomas episode and expect more such variations to my content in the future. Until the next one!
Love,
your Diva 🖤
